Find the right over-the-tire track for your skid steer loader

With rubber and steel over-the-tire tracks available on the market, it can get somewhat confusing for the end-user when comes the time to select the right solution for their application. Learn more about the difference between these two products.

Find the right over-the-tire track for your skid steer loader

Whether you’re a busy construction entrepreneur, a farmer who needs to get things done, or just someone who enjoys working – even in the harshest conditions, finding a solution that will help you maximize your skid steer loader’s capacity is always welcome. That’s exactly what over-the-tire (OTT) tracks have been developed for: sometimes, tires just can’t make the cut if you require an extra level of traction or flotation.

With rubber and steel over-the-tire tracks available on the market, it can get somewhat confusing for the end-user when comes the time to select the right solution for their application. That’s why we sat down with our tracks expert Andrew Gaffney, Product Manager, Americas – Construction tracks. We then combined his advice and our OTT tracks features and benefits into a face-to-face comparison. Here are the main takeaways.

Camso Steel vs Rubber OTT

Here are a few additional FAQs about over-the-tire tracks:

When should I use steel vs. rubber over-the-tire tracks?

This always depends on your application and the surface type you’re working on. As a general rule, the Steel OTT improves your skid steer loader’s performance in more extreme conditions, from muddy surfaces to rocks or even ice. The Rubber OTT, on the other hand, performs best when looking for minimal ground disturbance and maximum flotation on surfaces like turf, sand and snow.

Can I use my OTT track all year long?

Our Camso engineers have designed both over-the-tire tracks for use throughout all seasons. They have been designed as an attachment that provides improved skid steer loader performance in specific applications. For operators who find that their skid steers are not performing ideally without the over-the-tire tracks, it may be time to consider a track loader as a permanent solution to their application. We recommend discussing options with your equipment dealer.

Can I use my OTT with foam-filled or solid tires?

We do not recommend the use of foam filled or solid tires since it will put extra pressure on your OTT track.
